About lydia
Principal lydia ievins established the infoTamers web consultancy in 1999. She loves to solve puzzles and identify patterns, in order to crystallize complex or overwhelming streams of information into representations -- most often web sites or databases -- that feel so neat and elegant you'll think their underlying orderly structure should have been obvious all along. She has collected four academic degrees, including a Masters degree in Library and Information Science. In her work she draws from her experiences in a variety of complementary roles:
- web designer -- since 1995, as founding member of the Internet Public Library
- database designer
- librarian -- at Harvard University Library Office for Information Systems
- teacher -- of web programming, of English, of Latvian
- copyeditor and proofreader -- for business- and computer-related trade titles
- life design coach
Her multifaceted life also includes a significant component of music and dance -- she's active as a dancer and fiddler in several overlapping folk scenes (contra, English country, Scandinavian, Balkan) -- and a plethora of craft projects most often centered in textiles (quilting, knitting, weaving). One of her newest musical ventures, as she has become increasingly immersed in Swedish folk music and dance traditions, has been learning to play the Swedish keyed fiddle called the nyckelharpa.
